Hand Writing
Early attention to fine motor skills development is imperative to laying a strong foundation for writing and drawing skills. There are many tools available to aid pencil grip and correct finger placement. There is also an abundance of excellent visual cues that can be copied or traced, many of which show formation direction of both letters and numerals. Write and wipe boards, activity books and flashcards are increasingly popular and have the luxury of being able to be used over and over again. The smooth surface reduces friction in turn speeding up the writing process. The ability to write legibly and quickly is a basic skill requirement. Providing children with a range of writing materials helps the development of legibility and ease of letter formation.
